New House!

I have a new house! It’s actually a very old house, with lots of trees, as can be seen from overheadexternal link.

My new physical address, freely splashed upon the internet, since it costs actual money to spam a physical address:
5 Armstrong Street
Springvale 3171
Victoria
Australia

And my new landline phone number:
03 9546 0342

Now to just get ADSL, gas, power, stuff like that.

Some updates

This is essentially an errata-post, correcting some details and updating some things:

  1. Thank you Heffa for the Toys R Us vouchers with which I purchased the big lego forklist. Sorry for getting the attribution wrong the first time.
  2. The magnificent menu on complexification.netexternal link is not javascript. Sadly, it is Flash. What a ripoff.
  3. The lovely house front depicted in the previous post is a lie. It is a nasty smelly little place with considerable mold. Yucky!

That’s all folks.

Oopsies!

As E just pointed out to me, under recent IE the side menus on my homepage were all buggered up. This has now been resolved through application of some blunt-force CSS hackery.
This post is going to be really short if I stop there, soooo…

Here is where Thorne probably wants to live:

Thorne hasn’t inspected yet, much less submitted an application, so this is still purest speculation.

Soul-searing machine-generated beauty

I was appreciating a particularly beautiful screensaver today. It’s called ‘substrate’, and it involves these little crawling veins of colour which meander about aimlessly across a white page, slowly evolving something that looks like an aging parchment map of a chaotic old city, all in sepia tones. The (static) end result looks a lot like this:
substrate

In contemplative awe, it struck me that I could probably Google up the author of this marvel. Some very rudimentary googling led me to Complexification.net, home of the wrongest, yet most beautiful javascript menu I have ever seenexternal link.eek
nodegarden
Here, I found many many more marvels like kind, such as this:

Most seem to have java-based live examples, so that one can generate one’s own work of random glory, and splatter it on one’s desktop.smile

In other generally random news, the progress towards the great upheaval porceeds apace. I can’t remember if I’ve already broadcast the details, but if not, here goes: my housemates and I are selling up our immense house in Glen Waverley and going our separate ways. I will be posting more public guff here as this project progresses.

Homepage fiddlings

This is just a very minor update to show off just how much time I have wasted today. twisted

If you’re viewing this through the wiki, you’ll have to go over here and see the prettified version I use for a home-page.

All that has changed in this case is the frame: it now looks like it was originally intended to look: the edges of the borders nearest to the main content box (in the middle) are now the same colour as the content box, and all the fades line up correctly, thanks to the miracle of CSSexternal link. The page is still Impure in the eyes of many though: it uses tables for layout, an unforgiveable no-no by many modern standards. It does this because the CSS-clean way of doing things will not yield columns of equal length with correctly scaling background images. For that I needed the bastard mixture you see here.
Fortunately, unlike some non-specific Pento and Thingalon, I am not attempting to appease any CSS style-nazis. I just don’t care. twisted

Brain Rot, Font foolishness

Much brain-rot and unhelpful anxiety hath eventuated since last I did post here, but, to quote Megatron:
I Still Function!.
As you can see here, I have recently done some extremely foolish things involving a font generator. At least, you will still be able to see the foolish things if I haven’t thought better of it and removed the script. If you can see the image, you may also be able to see that it’s dynamically generated in php. twisted

All I want for christmas is…

…Yeah well, I can dream, can’t I? twisted
I have actually given serious thought to the car issue lately: My old 929 is a tad heavy and fuel consumptive, and it is fast approaching the point where it will be unsafe/undriveable without new suspension (~$2000). This has got to be a large fraction of its total value, and while it is a lovely car, and safe for me due to its sheer size, it still lacks things like ABS and airbags. There are quite a few new cars now which provide both of these and a bunch of extra crap for a lot less than $20,000…
Still, I am mostly broke, my car mostly goes, and I am mostly inclined to wait for the hybrid-car thing to get moving.

The Joy of LEGO(tm) & the marryin’-frenzy continues

Thanks to the ingenious birthday gift of a Toys-R-Usexternal link voucher, I have just purchased the first real pure toy I’ve had in years:

In other recent astonishing news, some non-specific Ben and some non-specific Melinda are Engaged, and some other unspecified Dave and Penny are planning to start cranking out Kids. I am equal parts congratulatory and shaken. These people are so breathtakingly young, or at least much younger than me. *sigh*

It bears repeated mention just how much I love E. smile

Dave’s bucks night last night was most fine… Dave got drunk enough to be most loud and joyful, but not so drunk as to suffer horribly, as has sometimes happened in past. He looks really happy, and for all that this thing with Penny is very new, I find that I can look at him and believe. Good luck Dave! *hugs*

Tonight I cooked a very fine meal tonight which originated on the radio… I think it was the lead singer of… Jebediah? I forget..his ‘fabulous chicken’ recipe is simple as hell:
Butterfly a chicken-breast and spread basil pesto inside the breast. Close it up again, wrap with proscuitto or bacon and pin it closed with toothpicks or skewers. Pan-fry, grill, or oven-bake. Yarm!

Addenda:
5/12/05: Amended this page to add the image, but mostly to remove the spurious attribution of my lovely vouchers. Many lovely presents were received, and I got confused. redface Moooo!

Freedom fightin’ Job huntin’ marryin’ & goin’ crazy

Again, long time, no post. 🙁 My apologies to all those who had been reading my prolific posts when they were almost daily. Many aspects of my life have fallen behind for a little bit. My reading of web comics, for example, was a bit lagged, and what a time to get out of sync with MoSexternal link!!!
First and most colourfully, there’s The Rallyexternal link. On Tuesday last I took a day’s leave, not feeling that my employers would derive anything educational from me actually striking per se.
Speaking of my employers, I have been working longish hours to appease them for a week now. This is in response to a new directive from my boss that I should be in by 9:00-ish regardless of how late I work in the evenings. This in turn has spurred me to a whole new round of job-seeking, which is currently going well.
Just got a nibble from SecurePayexternal link, in fact. biggrin
Went to a wedding on Saturday with E: Purplexityexternal link and Benjiexternal link. It was a very fine event, beautiful, compelling, and cunningly organised.
That’s all for now… I probably ought to say something unique, interesting or at least insightful, but all my insights lately have been the kind you don’t share with friends if you want to still have any friends. Every day it gets a little bit stranger being me. neutral
When I upload and process them, there will be photos of both the rally and the wedding. There might even be photos of me being crazy, but don’t count on it.
