Ma-wij!

It should come as no surprise to anyone who knows us that on the 10th of April this year, E and I will be officially Wed! This is proving to be a challenging thing to organise, and one of those challenges is compiling a guest-list. Guest lists are horrible things! Frought with taboo and instilled with ridiculous levels of social significance.

The Princess Bride - Peter Cook

…which makes the things I’m about to say all the more rude. Um. Sorry.

Most of the people who read this are on the list, if comments are anything to go by, but a handful of people who probably expect to be on it aren’t. This does not mean that E or I don’t like you. It may, however, mean that we don’t get the feeling that you’re a friend to our relationship, or to both of us as a couple. Pardon my bluntness, I’d rather be blunt than lie to you about this, or leave any doubt.

I say this in the hope that, when the invitations go out, their presence or absence shouldn’t be shocking news to anyone.

Mostly though, I hope to see you there.

Wonderful Toys

E is mad, in the most wonderful possible way: she just bought me a veritable swath of new toys because she decided I need more presents. Who am I to argue the point? 🙂

I have always wanted one of the ThinkGeek highly collimated green laser pointers. Now I have one. It will happily paint lurid green lines on trees more than a kilometer from my house. Further than that seems very likely, but I need to get up higher at night to give it a try. It is also the only laser I have ever owned of which it can be said that you can really, clearly see the beam, rather than just the surface it’s shining on.

I have long coveted the Skagen family of flat, mesh-banded watches. Now I have one on my wrist, and it’s purteh and very comfortable.

I never knew that such things existed, but I now have a beautiful silver ring with the words ‘come and get them‘ inscribed on it in ancient greek.

Thank you love!

No, we’re just partners, Thanks.

On Tuesday night E and I were asked if we were brother and sister!!!

The checkout-chick at Bunnings may have had some cause to ask this: we were engaged in that kind of vaguely adversarial humour that might well seem like the sibling thing to the unfamiliar eye.

Still. We were both greatly freaked out by the question:

“Are you two brother and sister?”

It struck me at the time that this person really needed to meet me in the company of my actual brother:

Lawler-spotting for beginners

we are fairly easy-to-spot siblings.

On a mostly unrelated note: I should add to my rave about Skullcandy by pointing out that my Skullcandy ‘buds were a gift from E, who bought them off the ‘net. I don’t know a good retailer to buy them at in Melbourne, sadly.

Why I love E

No, not MDMA, E!Anonymised

DoctorGypsyBikerPirateWitch, Keeper of the Toes, etc.
I don’t post enough unreservedly positive things on this blog, and I don’t say enough about the most wonderful person in my life. That’s partly because I’m needlessly reserved, and partly because I strive to keep a veneer of anonymity over E where she appears in this blog.

This amazing woman has come into my life in the last few years, and stood by me through a lot of crazy stuff, some good, much bad. What you need to know about E is that she is a carer, not just a doctor, but someone who gives her measured, diligent, considerate care to all things and people in her life. Through her care I have grown as a person to an extent that has not happened since high school, and in ways which would simply not have been possible without her. E is full of mischief, evil, cunning and dark humour that will always make me laugh, however dark the hour. She is brilliant and wise rather than clever as I once aspired to be. Practical and insightful, she guides me back towards reality when I tilt at windmills.

That is why I love her.

Enough now. Apologies to single or embittered readers who find this post induces nausea. 🙂

All readers of my blog need to be aware that E has a nifty blog too!

There is no need to mention butt-mushrooms or tomato snakes in this post. Hence, they will remain omitted.
